Garfield Park Village resident, Kathleen Wright, was awarded the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) Educational Grant this year. The Foundation has awarded 79 grants for the school year 2016-17 throughout the US. The grant funds are for tuition and to cover other direct educational expenses.
Ms. Wright has a GPA of 4.0 and her major is Digital Media. The grant will pay for tuition, books, transportation and food.
Ms. Wright is an active community member of Garfield Park Village Resident Council. She recently was involved in a local protest to stop proposed cuts from Santa Cruz Transit/Metro. The proposed cuts would have reduced the number of bus stops that serve our community. Public transportation allows our residents the freedom to shop and attend medical appointments independently. The removal of these bus stops would have severely limited our resident’s independence, especially those with no transportation.
Congratulations to Ms. Wright!
