On Saturday, May 4, CCH will celebrate the grand re-opening of its recently renovated Woodland Christian Towers (WCT) from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City of Houston, Texas. Local leaders and dignitaries, including Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, will join CCH officials for the dedication ceremonies at 600 E. Tidwell Road.
“We are grateful to the City of Houston, our partners and supporters for their continued collaboration enabling CCH to realize this landmark project and provide affordable housing to this great community,” shares CCH President and CEO Don Stump.
The seven story property is designed to provide affordable housing to very low income seniors age 62 and older, disabled persons 18 years of age or older, and people who were formerly homeless.
During the renovation, CCH partnered with Harmony House, a local nonprofit organization providing housing to Houston’s homeless for more than 20 years. To date, Harmony House has identified and placed 62 homeless residents at WCT with 10 more individuals to be added in the near future. Harmony House is providing supportive services and case management for all 62 of the permanent supportive housing (PSH) residents while CCH provides supportive services for non-PSH residents.
First built in 1971, WCT offers 126 apartments conveniently located near shopping, and public transportation. The recent renovations include a new community space, offices and laundry room on the first floor, as well as the refurbishment of all apartment units and hallways on floors 2-7 and the renovation and/or upgrade of many major building systems, such as the roof, exterior siding, windows, HVAC system, pipes, Wi-Fi and elevators.
