Recently, CCH Community Harrison Street Housing in Oakland, California was visited by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Director of Asset Management Division Alexa Jeffress and her team of account executives. As a good example of an affordable housing community that utilized private and public funds, attendees directly saw and experienced how CCH builds and manages its caring communities.
In 2012, Harrison Street Housing was a newly constructed affordable housing community which utilized project rental assistance contract (PRAC) funding and tax credits. Attendees met with Elieen Luo, the original Operations Manager, and with current residents while visiting two occupied apartments. They also noted the many green features of the community including the lovely garden where residents grow flowers and vegetables. They were especially struck with how new the building still looks after five years. At the end of the day, everyone expressed a commitment to further explore new ways to utilizing the department’s budget to best serve the needs of our vulnerable population of low-income seniors. CCH Asset Manager Brett Vaughn shares, “As the San Francisco office of HUD, they are often leaders in utilizing Federal funds and private investments to support affordable housing. Everyone was genuinely hopeful that we would continue to find opportunities in the future to help more seniors find More Than A Home.”
