On June 7, Christian Church Homes (CCH) along with approximately two hundred and fifty seniors and representatives from numerous affordable housing organizations visited the California State Capitol to address lawmakers in an event called Advocacy Day. During the day, seniors promoted several legislative bills that highlighted ways to address the severe lack of affordable housing in the state. Participants also shared personal stories conveying the struggles they have endured while locating and securing affordable housing. During one meeting, a senior commented to a legislative aide, “Affordable housing should be available to everyone who needs it. I’m one of the lucky ones. Your support would mean a lot to so many of seniors who pay most of their income to keep a roof over their heads.”
CCH CEO and President, Don Stump, states, “Our residents were passionate as they spoke on behalf of tens of thousands still struggling to secure affordable housing. The need has never been greater. We are grateful for their efforts. CCH is honored to participate in this event every year.”
Established in 1961, Christian Church Homes is a faith-based, non-profit organization that has been building and managing affordable housing communities where seniors can live and thrive in the comfort of their own home. As a ministry within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), CCH has grown to 58 caring communities that are More Than A Home to residents in eight states. These communities benefit more than 5,000 seniors, as well as the local neighborhoods, towns and cities in which they live. Visit www.cchnc.org for more information.
