On January 27, Christian Church Homes (CCH) will host the grand opening of its newest affordable housing community, Hatler-May Village, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mayor John Suthers along with CCH CEO and President Don Stump will be speaking at the event. Representatives from the Office of Senator Bennet and Congressman Lamborn will also be attending.
Hatler-May Village provides 76 new one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for low-income seniors. The project was originally conceived as a HUD 202, but was later converted to a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) development (when Congress stopped funding the HUD program). In 2014, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) awarded the project a 9% LIHTC. Together with an award of $500,000 from the City and $300,000 from the State, CCH was able to secure financing of $14.1 million to build this state of the art community. Funders and partners include the City of Colorado Springs, the State of Colorado, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, Chase Bank, and National Equity Fund.
Hatler May Village is named after Rev. Gay Hatler, retired minister of First Christian Church, Colorado Springs and Bill May, a retired Air Force officer and Disciples lay member. The two individuals were instrumental in the conceiving of the Hatler-May Village project.
