CCH Celebrates our Diversity

CCH embraces the cultural diversity of its residents and staff whose rich history and colorful ancestry embodies the core of our organization’s mission to provide quality affordable housing in caring communities. CCH is committed to maintaining discrimination-free communities that serve the housing needs of low and very low income seniors regardless of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, marital status, sex, gender, gender identity, age, or sexual orientation.

“We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all our residents and embrace the cultural diversity which they bring to our communities,” shares CCH President and CEO Syd Najeeb,

CCH’s commitment to cultural diversity was evident in February. Many of our residents gathered to commemorate Lunar New Year and Black History Month as an chance to come together and acknowledge the diversity inherent within our communities.

Beth Eden brought a cross blend of Chinese New Year and Black History month for its annual combined heritage party. This year’s theme for Black History was: African Americans and the Vote; and the Chinese New Year theme was: The Year of the Rat. The group enjoyed traditional dishes from the Chinese culture as well as soul food from the Black American culture. Many residents dressed in native attire representative of their heritage.

“We all enjoyed singing, dancing and performances from each culture,” shares Community Manager LaShon Godffrey. “We are very proud of the efforts from residents and staff alike for their input, creativity and participation.”

Similarly, Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations at Westlake Towers and Southlake Tower enabled guests to dine on authentic Chinese cuisine and dress in native attire while sharing traditional Chinese song and dance. There were also colorful displays depicting Chinese history and traditions. The celebrations were even more relevant this year given the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the cancelation of many Lunar New Year events in mainland China and some local municipalities.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our residents and staff to reflect on the richness of Chinese culture and history and what it brings to our organization,” shares Westlake Community Manager David Fan.

“It’s great when CCH communities takes steps to connect residents with the larger community.” Syd adds. “We applaud the ways CCH staff promotes diversity, health, nutrition, and comradery within and outside of their communities.
